Celebrating Our Wonderful EYFS Communicators at Bay!

What an incredible year it has been for our Early Years children! We are immensely proud of the amazing progress they have made as they prepare for their exciting transition into Year 1. Alongside developing the key skills and foundational knowledge needed for the next stage of their learning, their achievements in speech and language, oracy and storytelling have been truly outstanding.

Following writing training led by our Trust English Lead, we introduced Pie Corbett’s five-sentence story approach to further develop children’s speaking and storytelling skills. The impact has been fantastic! Our children have developed a real love of stories and have thoroughly enjoyed creating story maps of familiar tales before confidently retelling them to their friends and teachers. They are now using ambitious vocabulary, expressive story language and growing confidence as they shared their ideas.

We are also incredibly fortunate at Bay Primary School to have the support of our Endeavour Nurture Room, where Mrs Gowland provides targeted speech and language intervention for children who need additional support. Working closely with our Early Years team, her dedication and expertise have helped so many children develop their communication skills. We are especially proud that many children who joined us with very limited vocabulary have made exceptional progress with their speaking and understanding of language.

Watching our children grow into confident speakers, enthusiastic storytellers and curious learners has been one of the highlights of the year. Their confidence, imagination and love of language have shone through in everything they have done, and we couldn’t be prouder of all they have achieved. We know these skills will provide a wonderful foundation as they begin their Year 1 adventure, and we can’t wait to see all they accomplish next!

beach day

Our early years pupils had a fantastic day at the beach, enjoying a range of fun activities while making wonderful memories together. A highlight of the day was meeting the amazing RNLI team, who shared important water safety advice and gave us an insight into the vital work they do to keep people safe along our coast.

The children were fascinated to learn about the two lifeboats based at Bridlington and discovered how each one is used to respond to different types of rescues. The RNLI volunteers showed us the specialist kit and safety equipment worn by the crew and explained how it helps to keep them safe in all weather conditions. Everyone was excited to have the opportunity to try on some of the RNLI uniform and experience what it feels like to wear the life-saving gear.

Whilst on the beach, the children worked together to create sand sculptures, enjoyed paddling in the sea, and collected water, pebbles and stones to decorate their sandcastles. They also enjoyed a picnic lunch and a well-deserved ice cream. It was a truly wonderful day for all, celebrating the end of a fantastic first year at school. We would like to say a huge thank you to the RNLI team for giving up their time to share their knowledge and helping to make it such a memorable and enjoyable experience.
